Cosculluela wins 100 hurdles to cap Stanford Invitational...
STANFORD, California--Washington multi event specialist Sofia Cosculluela (Paul Merca photo) capped two days of competition for the Huskies on the final day of the Stanford Invitational on another warm day in the Bay Area by winning the women's 100 hurdles.
The former Spanish national heptathlon champion entered the finals with the fastest qualifying time from Friday's preliminary round, where she ran 13.60.
Saturday, Cosculluela bettered her previous personal best of 13.42 set two years ago, running 13.41. Sofia had a previous best while a Husky of 13.45 set last year. She remains the fourth fastest hurdler in school history.
Other highlights:
--Trevontay Smith, Roman Hutchinson, and Tim Luebbert went 1-2-4 in the collegiate section of the men's triple jump.
Smith won with a second round jump of 50-10 (15.49m), while Hutchinson bounced to a best of 49-6.5 (15.10m). Luebbert had a best of 46-5.5 (14.16m) on the day.
--In the women's collegiate triple jump, Ava Washburn took the win with a best of 39-7.75 (12.08m), while Addison Kelly was third at 39-5 (12.01m).
--Defending Stanford Invitational champ Chloe Foerster of the Huskies finished fourth overall in the women's 800, running 2:01.76 to place third in the heat.
In the same heat, Jenica Swartz was sixth in 2:03.13.
RHOADS WINS ELITE POLE VAULT AT TEXAS RELAYS...
In Austin, Washington's Jimmy Rhoads won the invitational men's section of the pole vault at the Texas Relays Saturday afternoon.
The pole vault competitions, as well as the meet, were impacted by a weather delay and tricky winds.
After clearing his first two bars, Rhoads needed a second attempt to clear 18-2.5 (5.55m), losing the lead to Virginia Tech's Maddox Hamm, who cleared on his first.
Rhoads roared back to take the lead for good with a second attempt make at 18-6.5 (5.65m), while Hamm bowed out with three misses.
The former Penn All-American punctuated his win with a first attempt make at 18-10.5 (5.75m), then missed three shots at 19-2.25 (5.85m).
Veronica Vacca and Sara Borton failed to clear a height, missing three times at the opening bar of 13-9.25 (4.20m).
Bainbridge HS grad Ella McRitchie of Harvard tied for third with a best of 13-9.25 (4.20m).
Molly Haywood of Baylor was the winner with a best of 14-7.25 (4.45m).
