DES MOINES, Iowa--
Waleed Suliman (Lance Jording photo) of Seattle's Brooks Beasts finished fourth in Tuesday night's USATF 1 Mile Road Championship on the streets of downtown Des Moines.

As part of the Drake Relays, Des Moines has played host to the national road mile championships, with a trip to Copenhagen. Denmark for the World Athletics Road Mile Championships on the line for the top two finishers in the men's and women's races.

Suliman was towards the back of a very tight pack early, going through the quarter mile in 60, before moving up to twelfth at the half mile in 2:00.

He got himself up to seventh at the 3/4 mile mark in 3:01, then made a charge for the finish, running on the right side of the road, to get fourth.

Paris Olympic bronze medalist Yared Nuguse won his first national road mile championship, crossing the line in 3:55, just ahead of defending champion Vince Ciattei and Drew Hunter, who all were clocked in 3:55.

Brannon Kidder of the Beasts was seventh in 3:57, while Washington alums Sam Ellis and Joe Waskom were tenth and twelfth in 4:02 and 4:05, respectively.

In the women's race, Washington alum Eleanor Fulton was the top finisher, placing fifth in 4:30.

Former Seattle resident and Brooks Beast Allie Ostrander was sixth in 4:31.

Washington alum Claire Yerby finished ninth in 4:37, just ahead of Teagan Schein-Becker of the Brooks Beasts in the same time.

Reigning US indoor 800 meter champion Addy Wiley won, out kicking Graci Hyde and Gracie Morris, with all credited with times of 4:26.

All but Kidder will return to run the men's invitational 1500 on Saturday at the Drake Relays, while only Claire Yerby will run the women's invitational 1500.
