Katie Moon takes second at Drake Relays Vault at Jordan Creek...

WEST DES MOINES, Iowa--
Former Pullman resident Katie Moon (Paul Merca file photo) finished second in the Vault at Jordan Creek Monday evening at the Jordan Creek Town Center, as part of the Drake Relays festivities.

Moon, along with winner and former training partner Sandi Morris, both cleared 15-7 (4.75m). However Morris got the win on fewer misses, with Morris clearing the bar on her first attempt, while Moon needed three tries to make 15-7 (4.75m).

Moon, who only competed once during the indoor season, started with a second attempt make at 14-7.25 (4.45m), then passed at 14-11 (4.55m) before making 15-3 (4.65m) on her first attempt to take the lead at that point from Morris.

Washington alum Nastassja Campbell, who was originally scheduled to compete in the mall vault after jumping at Mt. SAC on Saturday, will instead compete Saturday in the pro section of the Drake Relays pole vault, along with Moon and Morris.

Tuesday, a number of pros will line up for the USATF One Mile Road Championship race in downtown Des Moines at Western Gateway Park.

On the men's side, Brannon Kidder and Waleed Suliman of the Brooks Beasts are entered, along with Washington alums Sam Ellis and Joe Waskom.

Washington alums Eleanor Fulton and Claire Yerby are in the women's race, along with Teagan Schein-Becker of the Brooks Beasts, and Allie Ostrander.

The top two men's and women's finishers will automatically qualify for Team USA's trip to Copenhagen, Denmark in September for the World Athletics Road Mile championships.

USATF.tv ($) will stream both races starting at 5 pm Pacific time. The women's race starts at 5:15 pm Pacific, with the men starting 15 minutes later.

A number of them will stay in Des Moines to compete in the invitational 1500 at the Drake Relays on Saturday.
