O'Sullivan earns top-eight finish in first European Champs 1500m final...
On the final day of competition at the European Championships in Birmingham, United Kingdom Sunday evening, Washington alum Sophie O'Sullivan (photo courtesy Athletics Ireland) of Ireland finished eighth in the women's 1500 meters.
As is so often the case in a championship race, the pace was slow, with O'Sullivan seemingly in good position, running in fourth place through the first 800, which went through in 68 seconds through the first 400 and 2:21 at 800.
However, O'Sullivan found herself pinned to the rail when the real racing began with 600 meters to go, and appeared to drop back to find running room as the field pounced.
O'Sullivan tried to make a late charge, but a gap had opened between her and the leaders, and could not make up the deficit in the end.
The 2025 NCAA champion finished in a time of 4:11.72, as Georgia Hunter Bell of Great Britain took the victory in 4:07.78.
"I need to be in a good spot with a lap to go, and I wasn't", said O'Sullivan in the mixed zone afterwards.
”It’s the sort of race I think I sort of could have done really well in."

LUKE HOUSER WINS FALMOUTH MILE...

Fellow Husky and Atlanta Track Club teammate Aidan Ryan was eighth in 3:54.51, after leading the field when the pacesetter dropped out after the 800 meter mark.
In the women's race, Chloe Scrimgeour of the Brooks Beasts was eleventh in 4:39.07, as Heather MacLean won in 4:25.89.
