Zürich Weltklasse to close out Wanda Diamond League regular season...
The Wanda Diamond League tour concludes its regular season with the Zürich Weltklasse meet Wednesday and Thursday in Zürich, Switzerland.
Wednesday's portion of the meet consists of only one event--the women's pole vault at the Zürich Main Train Station.
Defending world and Tokyo Olympic champion Katie Moon (file photo courtesy Wanda Diamond League) is the headliner, along with Switzerland's Angelica Moser, who currently leads the Diamond League women's pole vault standings after five of six meets in the series with 33 points.
Moser and Australia's Nina Kennedy, who is not competing, have clinched spots in next week's Diamond League finals in Brussels.
In addition to former Pullman resident Moon, who stands fourth in the Diamond League point standings with 16 points, seven of the top ten point scorers are in the field, including Washington's Hana Moll, who is eighth in the standings with 10 points, thanks to her win last week in Lausanne.
The women's pole vault at the Zürich Main Train Station begins Wednesday morning at 8:30 am Pacific time. Flotrack ($) will stream the competition both days in the USA.
The main portion of the Zürich Weltklasse meet on Thursday will have two women with Washington ties entered.
Washington alum Sophie O'Sullivan will run in the women's 1500 against a field that includes Linden Hall of Australia, Lucia Stafford of Canada, Susan Ejore of Kenya, and Heather Maclean of the USA.
The women's 1500, which is not a Diamond League scoring event, goes at 10:08 am Pacific, before the international television window begins at 11 am.
The women's 400 hurdles will kick off the international television window just past 11 am Pacific, and that race features Washington alum Gianna Woodruff of Panama.
Woodruff currently stands third in the Diamond League standings with 23 points after five of six meets, and has already clinched a spot in the finals in Brussels.
The top five in the Diamond League standings: Emma Zapletalová of Slovakia, Rushell Clayton of Jamaica, Woodruff, Anna Cockrell of the USA, and Amalie Iuel of Norway are all in the field.
The men's 1500 will be missing Washington alum and US national indoor and outdoor champion Nathan Green, who was not extended an invitation to race, and will have to find a race to be considered for the World Athletics Ultimate Championships.
That event features both the Tokyo and Paris Olympic champions in Jakob Ingebrigtsen of Norway and Cole Hocker of the USA, along with reigning world champion Isaac Nader of Portugal, and Paris Olympic bronze medalist Yared Nuguse of the USA.
Josh Kerr of the Brooks Beasts, who set the world record in the mile at the London Diamond League meet last month, is skipping both this meet and the Diamond League finals in Brussels, and is training in Albuquerque for the World Athletics Ultimate Championships in two weeks in Budapest.

A group of four former Huskies are racing Wednesday night at the Pfungstädter Abendsportfest August meet in Pfungstadt, Germany.
Sam Tanner, Kieran Lumb, Aidan Ryan and Brian Fay are all entered in the men's invitational 1500 in the meet.
Tanner, Lumb and Ryan are in the top section of the two-section race, while Fay, who is dropping down in distance, will race in the second of the two invitational sections.
Meanwhile, Washington alum Carley Thomas will run in the women's 800 at the Wiesław Maniak Memorial meet in Szczecin, Poland Wednesday night, which is a World Athletics Continental Tour Bronze level meet.
She'll face a field that includes Americans Raevyn Rogers, Meghan Hunter, Maggi Congdon, along with Canada's Addy Townsend, and Poland's Anna Wielgosz.

Washington alum Sophie O'Sullivan was named Tuesday by Athletics Ireland to its team for the World Athletics Road Running Championships in Copenhagen, Denmark September 19-20th, where she'll race the mile.
Fellow UW alum Brian Fay was also named to the Irish squad, where he'll race the 5k.
Washington alum Jack Rowe was named by British Athletics to its team in the half-marathon.
