Warme runs second fastest time in 400H semis to set up Sunday showdown at World U20s...

EUGENE--Kamiak HS rising senior Miller Warme (Paul Merca photo) ran the second fastest time of the men's 400 hurdles at the World Athletics Under 20 Championships Saturday night at Hayward Field on the campus of the University of Oregon.

Racing in heat one of the three semifinals, ran 49.48 to win his heat comfortably.

Japan's Taiju Goto out of the third semifinal, ran the fastest time of the day, winning in 49.19 to set up a showdown at 1:40 pm.

Mead/Spokane senior Simon Rosselli (Paul Merca photo), who will attend Oregon this fall, was one and done in Group B of the men's discus qualifying Saturday.

Rosselli got the disc over the 198-6 (60.50m) automatic qualifying line, with a toss of 199-7 (60.84m).

Afterwards, he told reporters, "I almost (fouled) that throw. I didn't like it. I wanted another chance to get another throw, but hey, I'm competing again tomorrow, so I'm not complaining."

"That was the idea. One throw, get back to the hotel, rest, stretch and recover."

In the lone final involving a Washington athlete Saturday night, Chloe Symon (Paul Merca photo) of Canada and the University of Washington, finished sixth in the women's 800.

Symon started slowly, coming through the 400 in ninth place in 63.14. She picked up the pace on the third 200, running 30.7 to put herself in striking position.

The Vancouver, BC native faded slightly down the homestretch, as she came home to finish in 2:04.24.

In reflecting on the world championships experience, she noted that this was the first meet all season where she competed in three rounds of the same event.

On the final day of the World U20 Championships, all events are finals.

At 1:40 pm, Millar Warme competes in the men's 400 hurdles final. Twelve minutes later, incoming Washington freshmen Milla Roberts of Australia and Sherry Drury of Japan race in the finals of the women's 1500 meters.
